Dancing Wonton Flowers ...


Thank you very much for visiting this blog. It has been close to a year since I last post ...

Cooking can be a great way to express our personality, exercise our creativity and explore new things. Feel like getting in touch with my cooking skills yesterday. Sitting quietly in my kitchen with very few ingredients, enjoying the solitude, playing with the tofu and feeling the texture of the wonton skin, having no expectations of what will turn out to be ...

And ... these little dancing wonton flowers just bloom ... 18 of them dancing gracefully on the plate. 

Looking closely at them, the curve, the lightness, the flow, the soft folding of the wonton flower, it is so beautiful and each of them is so unique! Maybe, I learn to see perfection in everyone of them and all of them look lovely. I smile. 

It's meditative, it's quiet and it's lovely.  Had an enjoyable time. 

May you be happy any time regardless whatever you are doing right now, be it cooking, washing dishes, reading, hanging out with friends or alone enjoying the solitude ...

hello ! I also have thalassemia minor and I am amazed by your blog!!! It is so difficult to find information about vegetarian diet for people like us ! I love cooking and I will definally start trying your recipes soon ! I have one question: sometimes I take some vitamin supplements to be sure that I will be ok. I fainted so many times already and I don't want this to happen anymore. Which vegetables I should always try to include on my diet in order to keep with good levels of iron and b12, do you know? Thanksssss xxx Clara

Thank you :)

Usually, I cut off tea and coffee for lunch and dinner, it affects the iron absorption. Vit C is required to aid iron absorption. We need Zinc too.

Watercress has good source of iron and other essential minerals, iron-rich vegetable like cabbage, kale, red date, spinach, red bean, green bean, potatoes, sea vegetable etc Mushroom too.

If you are vegetarian and also consume egg, B12 is not an issue. Some food like cereal are fortified with iron, B12 etc, marmite is another source of B12.

Just need to eat a balance diet and more different variety, you will be fine. If not, you might need iron tablet.

Hi crystal. I am a vegetarian and have tried many types of veg ham. There is a kind of very strong "artificial vegetarian smell" when I deep fried or cook it. The smell is also very obvious when eaten. I don't know how to describe the smell and do you know how can that smell be get rid of? I tried to use hot water to wash before deep fried but the smell is still not rid of.

Actually this kind of smell exist for almost all the mock meat but yet outside veg cooked food don't have this kind of "veg smell".

Dear Jen,

I can understand, as I do find some mock meat aren't that well done. I am not too sure what brand or what particular type of mock meat you are using that you encountered this. For e.g vegetarian mutton, there are many different brand in the market.

Usually, I don't get mock meat from supermarket but I would go to vegetarian wholesalers to get them. Ask them, they can give good recommendations, as they are the supplier to those vegetarian eateries.

They might even able to share with you how to cook the mock meat.
