Hedgehog Hydnum Mushroom (Monkey Head Mushroom)

Bought a packet (220g) of Hedgehog Hydnum Mushroom from a vegetarian shop, which can be used for stir-fry, boil soup or just eaten on its own after heating up. The ingredient consists of hedgehog hydnum mushroom, egg, veg seasoning and the brand is Goldhat. There is another brand which does not contain egg, it is a product of Taiwan by Yuan Ren (渊仁).

Preparation: 2 mins, Cooking time: 8 mins

Ingredients (serves 4)
° 220g hedgehog mushroom/monkey head mushroom

Method
1. Place the hedgehog mushroom in a heat proof plate. Steam for 5-8 minutes. Serve immediately.

Hi, 1st time heard abt seasoned monkey head mushroom (MHM). May I know where is the shop? Had tried many attempts to prepare the dried monkey head mushroom bought but was unable to get close to the tenderness std of LingZhi veg restaurant's Gong Bao MHM, my favourite dish there. I finally gave out trying to prepare myself but will order that when I dine out & see the dish on menu.

Hi

I love MHM too :)

Usually those vegetarian shops or vegetarian stalls at the wet market, do carry some stock. Ask them, sometimes they will order.

If you happened to pass by Fortune Centre. There is a veg. shop (which sell organic buns) at the ground level, near the escalator, they have it. I lost the address of that shop.

Thanks, I do know that shop at Fortune centre. I will keep a look out for it next time I am there :-)

May I know if do you have any easy recipe for avacado? Was advised by the fruit stall vendor to cut it into half & eat it with honey. it taste good, you can try.
I also like it with sushi. Do you have any recipe of avacado with sushi or any recipe to turn it into a delicacy?
Thank you & have a Great week ahead :-)

Avacado with Honey, something new to me. I will try, maybe make a vegan version using gula melaka to replace the honey :)

Avocado recipe, hmmm, so far only avocado soy milk shake :p if i try any, will put up in the blog :)

You too, have a lovely week.

Oh ya, heard that honey just like bird's nests is not technically vegan. Hmm, wld be good if can know substitute for honey, my favourite drink for thirst & heat.

Gula Melaka is Coconut Sugar, commonly used in Indonesian Cuisine.

Can add to Chin Chow (Grass Jelly) too, taste different.

Maybe, Avocada + Mango Salad with Plum Sauce :)

Hi Crystal,
I visited the shop at Fortune centre & bought the seasoned MHM without egg but did not notice if same brand as you mentioned.
Err, abit closer to the texture I want but still not as nice as restaurant version with sauce like canned Luo Han Zhai.:P Maybe I should try this goldhat brand you prepared.
However, I saw that they have Frozen Dim Sum & bought Ha Gao & ShuiJingBao to try. HaGao skin is abit too soft but the ShuiJing Bao is quite good. Only problem is it has no brand & expiry date stated so try it at your own risk:P

Hi

Not sure whether the Restaurant add anything extra to the dish, could have.

I prefer the one which the ingredients consists egg, it tastes better but not vegan.

Those frozen dim sum is good for storing in the refrigerator and we can just heat up anytime when we want something quick. Yup, the expiry date is important.

cheers, :)

for avocado recipe, you can make avocado with banana smoothies. After blending the two ingredients, add a bit of fresh lemon juice on top. Mix it well before serving, it tastes very good.
