Vegetarian Peanut Lotus Roots Soup

HA, I found this at the Vegetarian Shop at the Admiralty Wet Market (Admiralty MRT). It is another instant Vegetarian Food which Halal certified, where required just steaming or microwave.

It tastes nice, just that I don’t really like so much mock meat. I prefer the Vegetarian Peanut Lotus Roots Soup from Eight Immortal Vegetarian @ Causeway Point. It has very little mock meat but lots of peanuts! @ $3 per big bowl.

QQ水晶果 and 可可榴香

QQ水晶果 (Chinese Crystal Ball Dessert)

可可榴香

I went to Friendly Vegetarian Food Supplier at AMK, to buy Vegetarian Siew Mai for my son school - Teachers’ Appreciation Party. Guess what I found, QQ水晶果 (Chinese Crystal Ball Dessert) and 可可榴香 (No English name for this product, it is filled with durian and yam paste).

For the QQ水晶果, you just need to defrost it and it can be served, no cooking required.

Whereas for the other product, just deep-fried prior to serve, you may bake it if you like for a healthier choice.

By the way, the Vegetarian Siew Mai is lovely. Just steam them and you can have some ready made party food.

A Hot Cup of Almond!

Almond Meal (100% natural, no sugar added, no preservative, no colouring), Sim Tech Hiang Almond Syrup, Almond Powder with Fritillaria Cirrhosa

A hot cup of Almond Drink! I remember when I had a bad night cough a decade ago, my ex-colleague advised me to take almond syrup and it worked. Well, if you have persistent cough, it is still better to consult the doctor but it is no harm drinking a hot cup of almond tea with Fritillaria Cirrhosa .

You can get this from the supermarket – Almond Powder with Fritillaria Cirrhosa. If you prefer it without added sugar, go for the Almond Meal which I got from a Vegetarian Shop.
This beverage is getting popular at Food Court, you can order a cup of hot almond where consist of Almond Powder with Fritillaria Cirrhosa and Almond Syrup.

Almonds is nutritious and almond milk is a good substitute for milk.

Purple Yam Roll or Dioscoreae Roll ?

Baked!

Deep-Fried!

What is this? I don’t know the name of this product. It is very delectable. It is purple yam wrapped with a “net wrapper” made of rice vermicelli.

I got them from Friendly Vegetarian Food Supplier and they told me it Chinese Yam or “Purple Yam” (紫山芋 / Dioscoreae) and you deep-fried it. The packet didn’t come with any information related to this product, so let called it Purple Yam Roll or Dioscoreae Roll!

How to cook this? You can brush some olive oil on it and bake/toast it, for a healthier choice. Alternatively, deep-fried it which is nicer.

Vegetarian Seaweed Fish

I bought this product from one of the supermarkets. Another product with a “Healthier Choice" Logo from Health Promotion Board.

The ingredients are seaweed, soya bean curd skin, salt, sugar, sesame oil. No preservative!

I am getting lazy nowaday and want something hassle-free. I just do a quick thaw, brush some olive oil on it and toasted in my oven toaster. Next, just cut into smaller pieces using a pair of scissor or knife.

Instant Mash Potato with Black Pepper Sauce !

I bought a pack of Mr. Mash (Instant Mash Potato) at Fairprice $2.45 for 120g, which is suitable for vegetarian as stated on the box. And I got this Vegetarian Hot Pepper Sauce from Friendly Vegetarian Food Supplier which cost around $3.50 per bottle.

What’s next? Whipping up a quick and easy, deliciously instant mash potato is so easy. Just add the content of Mr. Mash with pinch of salt to a bowl of hot water. Mixed well, drizzle with hot pepper sauce on it. Sprinkle some sesame seeds or spring onion or coriander leaves if desired.

If you don’t like the peppery sauce, they have another similar sauce without the black pepper.

Miso Soup Porridge

I bought this Instant Vegetarian Miso Soup from Friendly Vegetarian Food Supplier. The ingredients are seaweed, salt, mushroom, beancurd, MSG, starch, spicy seasoning, and rice soybean.

Instead of using it to make a instant miso soup, I add it to a bowl of hot plain porridge/congee and it become – Miso Soup Porridge. It might come in handy when traveling, if the hotel’s breakfast serves plain porridge, just add it in, and if not just add hot water to make a bowl or cup of hot miso soup.

Vegetarian Soya Meat Roll

I bought this product from one of the supermarkets. It even has a “Healthier Choice" Logo from Health Promotion Board.

The ingredients are soya bean curd skin, yam, soya meat vegetables, salt, sugar, sesame oil.

The suggested method on the packaging is to cut and steam. What I did was, I thawed and toasted in my oven toaster. After that I use a pair of scissor to cut into small sections. Dip it with chilli sauce or sweet soy sauce or maybe vegetarian mayo cream, it is delicious. If you prefer, you may even wrapped it with lettuce leaves and go with some dipping sauce.

So simple and easy!

Seaweed Tofu

Spot this “Lo Sam” brand – Seaweed Tofu at the supermarket. One good thing about this, just heat it up and you can eat it. Simple, isn’t it?

What I did was, steamed the tofu and sliced it. Wrap it with lettuce and dip with chicken rice chilli sauce or freshly sliced chilli with light soy sauce.

Veggie Burger

Hmmm… I was supposed to make veggie croquette for my veggie burger. Then, I saw this Veggeburger-corn at the Vegetarian Shop @ Fortune Centre. Next, I just bought it and make burger by adding tomatoes slices and lettuces to it. For a healthy burger, just brush with a little bit of oil and bake or toasted.

If you prefer to make it yourself, check it out at Les Vegetarienne Recettes’s blog - Soy Burger or The BitBit's blog - Tofu Burger.

When I have the time, I would like to try making veggie croquette using mashed harsh brown and something else :-)

Furikake (Vegetarian)

Aonoriko & Vegetarian Salted Fish

It is a bit difficult to get Vegetarian Furikake but no worries, you can come up with your own. I did it by using Vegetarian Salted Fish (from Vegetarian Shops), Aonoriko Seaweed (from Daiso) and Black and White Sesame Seeds.

Vegetarian Salted Fish, the ingredients: Beancurd Skin, Seaweed, Flour, Salt & Sugar

Chai Chak Thai (Traditional Vegetarian Ham)

I love this vegetarian ham (Chai Chak Thai in Cantonese) and the ingredients are bean cured skin, spices, sugar, oil and flavouring. This is one of those traditional vegetarian foods available before the commercial mass production of mock meat. The process of making this is very tedious, where seasoned cooked beancurd skin is placed on top of each other, roll up and tightened by strings.

You can still find them at most vegetarian shops around S$2 plus for one. If it is frozen, just thaw it and slice thinly. Alternatively, just give it a quick steam to heat up.

Crispy Chinese Cruller with Sesame Seeds

Sometimes, you can spot a dish using Chinese crullers coated with honey or syrup and sesame seeds at the vegetarian stalls. Here is a simplified and super-fast recipe where you just need to buy some ready-made Chinese crullers around S$0.50-S$0.70 per piece. ° 40g maple syrup
° 4-5 tablespoons roasted sesame seeds
° 1 tablespoon vegetarian salad cream (optional), or to taste

Method

1. Dip the Chinese cruller in the maple syrup and then coat with sesame seeds. Repeat for the rest. Alternatively, brush the Chinese cruller with maple syrup and sprinkle sesame seeds on it.
2. Place the coated Chinese cruller in the over toaster and toast for 5-7 minutes.
3. To serve, place the shredded lettuce and carrot on a serving plate. Arrange the toasted Chinese cruller on top. Squeeze some vegetarian salad cream on top and around, if desired.

These Vegetarian Noodle Prawns (Vegetarian Chai Har) consist of mushroom, carrot, beancurd puff and Chinese swede and seasoning. Normally, it is deep-fried but for a healthy choice, tries the steaming method. Not to steam too long, as it get very soft.
